How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
Pets age faster than humans; that’s why it’s important to bring your furry friend in for a veterinary exam once a year. For senior pets, we recommend getting them checked once every six months. Some diseases come with no warning signs, making it hard to notice any underlying conditions. That’s where we come in. Our veterinarians can diagnose and treat any pain or discomfort your pet may be experiencing. Wellness exams help us maintain your pet’s health so that they can feel their best at all stages of their life.
What happens during a veterinary exam?
From nose to tail, the first step is a physical exam. Our veterinarians will look for any visible signs of disease that may be causing your pet’s discomfort. To better understand your pet’s condition, we will ask you a few questions about their medical history, diet, exercise routine, and lifestyle. We may run additional tests for further analysis and create a treatment plan. Some of the things we will examine during the physical exam are:
- Their weight and temperature
- Their alertness and how they walk/stand
- Their skin and fur (for redness, bumps, or loss of hair)
- Their teeth (for broken or rotting teeth)
- Their eyes and vision (for discharge or blurriness)
