Why is it important to vaccinate my puppy/dog?
Think of vaccines as your pet’s state-of-the-art security system. Vaccinating your dog allows them to build their immune system to fight and protect them against fatal diseases. Your furry loved one can pick up pests and parasites that can seriously affect their health if left untreated. With their protection in place, this prevents your pet from contracting and spreading harmful illnesses to other pets and humans. Some diseases vaccines work to prevent include:
- Distemper
- Parvovirus
- Adenovirus (hepatitis)
- Rabies
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
- Parainfluenza
When should I get my dog vaccinated?
For puppies, we recommend bringing them in for their first vaccines around 8 to 12-weeks-old. Until they are 3 to 4-months-old, they will continue to receive a series of vaccines. From there, we recommend getting their booster shots every 1 to 3 years. How often they should get vaccinated depends on your pet’s unique health needs, environment and lifestyle. Our veterinarians will work with you to create a preventative vaccination plan tailored to their needs so we can keep them safe and healthy.
